Barnsley’s long-standing Acorn Brewery has once again been successful in receiving awards for both Barnsley Bitter and Yorkshire Pride at the SIBA North East Region Competition 2019, held in Gateshead.

Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again. The winners from the SIBA competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the North East area, something brewers should be extremely proud of.” Ian Fozard, SIBA Chairman.

Acorn’s Barnsley Bitter triumphed with a Gold award in its class (Cask British Bitter, up to 4.4%) with Yorkshire Pride also taking Gold in its class (Bottle/Can British Bitter, up to 4.4%)

Barnsley Bitter took Gold for the 2nd time in 5 years in its class, Managing Director Dave Hughes said ‘Yet again our flagship beer, Barnsley Bitter which we have been brewing in Barnsley for the last 16 years has picked up a fantastic award that confirms the consistency and quality that the team at Acorn Brewery produce week in week out.

I am so proud of the beer produced for our customers, the team work extremely hard to ensure we delivered on our one of our business values (Quality) and we are thankful that our customers continue to support the Acorn brand daily. Without the customer we would not be able to achieve what we have done over the years.

It is the third accolade for Yorkshire Pride since Acorn began brewing the pale golden bitter, Director of business development, Christy Hughes, said ‘I’m extremally proud to have received this award, being judged by our peers. Yorkshire Pride is my personal favourite from our core range so I was over the moon when news of the award reached me on behave of the whole team at Acorn Brewery.

Both beers will now be automatically entered into the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards 2020 at BeerX
