£2565 Raised for Macmillan

Barnsley’s champion Acorn Brewery are excited and pleased to announce the results from their recent Charity event, Beer with an Auctioneer.

Over a year ago the Brewery launched a Beer Club, which takes place on the last Friday of the month, the brewery undergoes a transformation every month to convert a working brewery into a brewery tap, right in the heart of Barnsley.

Over the last year membership numbers have grown to over 350 people joining the club, which is phenomenal, to say the least.

Christy Hughes (Director of business development) said; when it came to planning the September club, we really wanted to get involved with the Macmillan Coffee Morning event, as it dropped on the same day. We have such an amazing customer base that we wanted to leverage this to help raise some cash for a good cause.

The dilemma was that the drink we serve up is a little stronger than a coffee so we had to think of something that could raise money but fit with the beer club. We went for ‘A Beer with an Auctioneer’ I reached out to a good friend (Alan Leonard) whom has supported a number of charity events in the past. He agreed to give up his time and be the Auctioneer. I contacted local firms and asked for prizes to be donated, the team were overwhelmed with the responses, with donations rolling in from local gyms, Barnsley football club to bars and local breweries we build an excellent catalogue to auction off.

We agreed as a business that the normal £5.00 entry fee for the beer club would also go toward funds that we raised.

With the entry fees, funds from the auction and the kind donations on our just giving page we hit a grand total of £2565 by closing time on the 27th. What a tremendous amount that we are able to hand over to Macmillan. The team at Acorn cannot thanks everyone that was involved enough. What a great community we have, it really is overwhelming to see such kindness. See you again next year!
